swimming on sunday afternoon is the
worse.
for the past 3 days, swimming has become my study break- the chance to get some adrenaline pumping in my vessels, burn off the holiday fats and give my poor little brain a short breather. but its difficult to get all that done when you're busy navigating the waters, keeping an eye out for that father who decided its about time to show his daughter how swimming is
really done by launching himself right into the centre of the pool, forcing everyone else to make an emergency break or get a concussion, trying your best to overtake that old lady in front of you who swims as fast as a tortoise (which, btw, cannot swim), switching lanes in time to avoid a head-on collision with the dude who is coming at you like a bulldozer but not looking at where he's going, pausing to allow that girl in the bikini who doesnt understand that the right of way belongs to those swimming laterally to paddle her way across, watching out for the kids who hop their way around the shallows and keeping your head a safe distance away from that giant stick they wave around way too enthusiastically. not to forget, that couple making out in the corner is
distracting.not only was i forced to take my break on the other side of the pool instead of my usual side, thanks to a row of bickering children having their swimming lessons, all the water traffic was making it difficult to focus on pacing and breathing.
to make things worse, i was wearing my moms
hot pink swim cap, thinking that ill look less like a drowned duck that way. unfortunately, it was not only completely unless at keeping my heair dry, i ended up looking a lot more like a floating pimple.
needless to say, i havent completed my rounds that fast in a while.
2:05 PM
i was looking intently at my bottle garden today and i discovered a small lumpy black thing that revealed itself to be this:

O: how amazing right. one of the saga seeds that i had placed inside the bottle for decorative purposes germinated, so i plucked it out (a bottle garden is no place for a strapping young tree to be living in) and trooped downstairs to plant it into the ground. the chances of it actually growing is rare though - not only will it be super difficult to ensure the seed doesnt rot before the leaves form, its also highly likely that the gardener will come and uproot it before it has a chance. but i picked a good spot with enough space and a little off the beaten trail to delay its discovery, so idk, maybe xD
just think about all the exciting auxin: cytokinin happening to it now! i shall go and check on it once in a while. maybe ill be Tree Mama :D:D

3:07 PM
today, we got back chem.
for almost my entire jc life, chem has been the subject i feared. not because it is a terribly difficult subject, but because it was a subject that i couldnt seem to do well in. i just couldnt seem to get the results to reflect my effort. for someone that believes you reap what you sow, its very scary when suddenly something comes along to completely disprove that idea. especially if its something you used to be good at.
when failure comes again and again, the shell you build up each time gets weaker. there were plenty of times during these years that ive almost given up hope. but during those times, i was very very very lucky to have all sorts of people beside me, urging me on and believing in me. and im infinitely grateful to them all:
Dr Chan, whose faith in me surpassed that of my own and my parents, who was always there to reply my inane randomly timed sms questions and who always always always believed in me. Some people think little of him because of his teaching methods, but I always felt that he was a rare teacher because he really gives and gives.
Vera Yuen who NEVER gave up on me, and always always encouraged me. I wish I was half as good a friend to her as she is to me.
Ramyia Elan, whom, despite being like in a totally genius class and totally have to right to ignore the hell out of me, was always there to listen and keep me in perspective.
Lincoln Ang, whom ive only recently got to know, but who always put down his own work to help me with mine during those critical days before cts. there are tons of other people, of course, and there are people who are just
there. all the time. for every one of them, i am thankful. without them/you guys, i wouldnt have made it.
before i got my results (like last night lol) i was really quite scared because i really put in 85% into this test. after a whole string of failures (
personal ones, not literal ones) i was determined to take this cts seriously, so i changed my way of revising and my way of doing the paper itself. so, you could say it was a gamble. i did a lot of questions off the top of my head, and i was really afraid for my results, because if i did not improve, it not only meant i was incapable of conquering this subject on my own, but that there were serious faults in my concepts that i wasnt sure i could clear by prelims. and if i had been going the wrong way all this while, whats to say i can get on the right track in time? the doubts drove me insane, and its the first time ever i regretted not being able to get my chem paper back immediately.
todays results were a relief, and im infinitely grateful for them. of course, different results mean different things to different people. some may scoff, others may think me arrogant. but personally, im very very thankful because it proved that
my gamble paid off. finally, after so long, there is light at the end of the tunnel. finally, i am moving forward. finally, im beginning to think i can make it. and finally, all these people who believed in me can stop being disappointed by me.
so thank you, to everybody, thank You, to the Good Lord. i still have room to improve. a lot of room, but at least now i know how.

just out of the shower after finishing my first attempt at tiramisu! we shall find out how it tastes tmr. biang and bailu shall be my tasters, and anyone else brave enough is welcome to give it a shot. xD
hope it turns out ok! -crosses fingers- its by far the healthiest (ok, if i had skipped out on the whipped cream it'll be even healthier, but whats the fun in that.) thing ive ever made, and its really simple (assuming i did not mess up). if everything works, we shall see more of those soon, since i have leftover ingredients (:
lunch was at the line, and in between that and all that taste-while-you-make, im sure ive gained a pound today. xD luckily tmr there is pe! ah, my dear friend, how i have missed you (declaration temporary)

Oh Goodness.
im sitting here trying to read my sloman and this
insanely delicious roast chicken smell is just wafting into my room.
and its NOT from my house.
):
i feel soooo tempted to go and make roast chicken now, but ever since my sis became vegetarian we've not eaten a whole chicken. plus there is no time (ok, excuse. roast chicken takes like 5 mins to prepare excluding roasting time)
in the meantime i will torture myself by surfing roast chicken pictures.

woah. today was a long and sleepy day xD
went to the psc fair bright and early at 9. twas interesting, i think some of the scholarships are really quite good; they were very flexible and provides the holder with a lot of opportunities. but i was really too tired to frolick around the halls, so i went home after 3 talks and SLEPT.
TO 5.30 O:O:O:
i feel so good now xD not awake, no, since the sky is still that dreary perfect for sleeping weather, but at least i feel like ive done my sleep debt proud. YAY.
